Car lights
A small story about Steve, a lawyer, from one of the dailies the other day, “I had to rush my dad to the hospital at 2:00 am in a freezingly cold night in LA. We rushed him to our car, got seated, started the car and yuck!!! the car lights wouldn’t work! I got down, tried to check some electrical wiring around the engine in vain….We had to call up 911 for an ambulance and rush him to the hospital. Precious time lost but by gods grace and expert hosiptal staff, dad is safe and sound now. Now I think, if only, I knew how to repair/fix my car lights?…”
Steve’s story may be similar to yours. Fixing car light issues is seemingly difficult but practically easy if properly trained. You can use some of our tips for your car light fixing during general weekly maintenance and repair activities:
•
A very common reason for failed headlights or taillights (both) could be a blown or dirt filled fuse. Please check the fuse in such cases. You can refer to the car manual to locate the position of the fuse box in a car. Once located, pull it out to check the problem. If the wire in the centre of the fuse is broken then it needs replacement. If not, then it needs cleaning and fix it back.
•
A peculiar case is when only one of the headlights or taillights isnt working. In this case, the problem could be a blown or worn out bulb. Remove the car light lens to inspect the light bulb. There could be two issues
1)
Rust collected at the bottom of the bulb: This needs to be cleaned and fixed back in place.
2)
Discolored and broken filament: This car light needs replacement.
Very Useful Tip: Please note that some cars have similar lights as tail lights and license plate lights. In case of emergency, you can replace the tail lights with the license plate lights.

In case you get a replacement bulb (generally buy these from leading online stores like automotix.net, fix it and yet don’t see the light functioning, there could be an electrical issue. These issues are more complicated and need to handled by experts. Therefore, please call your mechanic to resolve such issues for correct fitting and functioning of your car lights.
