Pencil beams
Better than the standard driving light, the pencil beams double the visibility distance (generally from 1000 ft to 2000 ft). More safety is achieved on high speedways with this increased visibilty. However care needs to be taken while using these. Because of the powerful beam and long distance light penetration, it may cause a glare for the oncoming vehicles. This can lead to haradous results for these cars. As a result some US states have prohibited use of these pencil beam headlights. |

Fog lights
As the name suggests, these are designed for exceptional weather issues like fog, heavy rain or snow. Fog lights are not designed for distance lighting. Instead they throw the light sharply on the ground. Their angle and technology prevents their reflection into the eyes of the driver yet provide excellent visibility in extreme weather conditions as mentioned above. |

The gas filled lights were introduced to reduce the consumption of the car battery. This headlight is filled with xenon gas. The gas helps generate better white light. As a result, the driver sees things better. The biggest advantage of these lights is the less usage of battery power leading to long life of the car battery as well as the lights. The halogen headlights operate on the same principle.
